Hey Kim, is this your first time doing a half marathon?
No I've done a few! This year I will be running alongside my husband Dale Alderton.
How did you get into running?
10 years ago I took part in Robin Hood Half Marathon for the charity 'Wish upon a star' and volunteered at the D&G sponsored event in 2019 and thought ‘I am going to do this next year’. I have a great running partner, Alex Tullett who is one of D&G's operational managers.
During the lockdown, running helped as a release but I think I did get a bit obsessed! Even when I couldn’t be bothered, I went out and usually ran further than what I thought I would.
What keeps you motivated to keep going?
It is great for my well-being, and I love how good it is for me. Two weeks after the RHHM I am completing the Pier to Pier half marathon with my best friend!
I am aiming to beat my previous time - my ultimate goal is to reach 2hr 15mins.
What is your playlist like?
Cheesy! All of the songs on my playlist mean something to me which keeps me going. I have a selection from the Spice Girls to Nicky Minaj with some Queen thrown in for good measure!
So, the race is done. How are you celebrating?
Chinese and Rose Prosecco! One of my friends is also bringing me a chocolate brownie to the finish line, I am so excited!
Do you have any advice for those who might be considering taking up running but is unsure?
Yes, find a run partner! Alex was great, she helped me but also pushed me to. Get to the gym and use the treadmill. We all feel self-conscious but just remember; everyone is there for the same thing.
What is your perfect song for crossing the finish line?
Easy - it has to be 'Fight Song' by Rachel Platten, one of my favourite songs! It's just one of those songs that's good at keeping you going all the way to the end.
